Plymouth Gran Fury or Chrysler Newport? |

I have no idea...it could be either of the two. -- Last edit: 2008-12-07 21:11:21 |

A Chrysler police car? |

Chrysler made police cars for many decades, what's so strange about that? |

But I thought only Dodges and Plymouths were used, the Chrysler version is too luxury to be a police car. |

Well you're referring to cars sold to the general public. Chrysler also made police-package vehicles that were as "bare" as any other police-package vehicle offered by Dodge/Plymouth. But it didn't last very long. The only police cars that Chrylser really offered during this period were the 1979 Chrysler Newport and the 1981 Chrysler LeBaron. |

I admit it's impossible for me to find the diferences. Newport ended its production in 1981 and the 1980 model really looks like the pic. But also the 1981 Plymouth Gran Fury. Only to add that the Plymouth's grille looks in a straight level and the Newport's grille looks with a very little V-formation. After these two pics I guess more a 1980 Chrysler Newport. For 1981 Gran Fury http://home.comcast.net/~Plyfury/81gf.htm and for 1980 Newport http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1081161503046866913OWiUWh (and later click the pic to enlarge it to full screen) |

1979 was the only year for the Chrysler Newport police car. Then in 1980-1981, the R-body Plymouth Gran Fury police car was available. |

Correct, this is a 1980-81 Plymouth Gran Fury. The egg-crate grille was used exclusively by Plymouth. |
