PRK 421K again. The footage is 1979 when Th#!~*%r first arrived at Downing Street to cheering crowds of deluded fools.

More Prime Ministerial P5B sightings
[Image: 08-20juu570.jpg] [Image: 08-20juu570a.jpg]

Commentary mentions that several P5Bs (6?) were stashed away after production ended (May 73) to keep the PM's fleet running for several years, claiming this was because Th#!~*%r hated the SD1 and wouldn't use it. While she may have hated it, she wasn't Empress until 1979, so that was not a factor at this point. The non-date JUU 570 plates echo similar usage (857 JGY, 508 JGT) registered in 1975 during Wilson era - /vehicle_1148560-Rover-35-Litre-P5B-1973.html , although (the first??) JUU 570 was a late 1967 car (probably chassis 850-00151A so very early example). PRG 315K was possibly the final Prime Ministerial P5B to be withdrawn from service, in 1981 and now in the Gaydon collection.

Many Prime Ministerial P5Bs were modified by Hoopers with beige cloth interiors instead of leather, various electrical upgrades for radio telephones and other security communications, extra reading lights, and during Harold's time with special pipe-smoker ash-trays.

There were also several lesser Ministerial black P5Bs, plus an ambassadorial fleet (including LHD for overseas use) and batches for MoD top brass.

Would be nice to think there are still a few stashed somewhere in a long forgotten Civil Defence warehouse along with a couple of Green Goddesses and some BSA B40's.

Matrix have just issued a second livery of their 3.5 Litre saloon (originally in blue), now in black with PRK 421K plates, the AA grille badge, 4 (count them) radio aerials and a Downing Street back picture. Plus 2 figurines - a policeman and chico's favorite pin-up girl. (code MX41706-112, edition size 199).

The original blue version is an excellent model

but I'll body-swerve the re-issue .....

More info about black ministerial P5Bs on that fateful day, all of which occur in well-known archive clips:
1] James Callaghan started the ball rolling by going to Buckingham Palace to tender his resignation in WLX 846M
2] Thatcher was then summoned to the palace to meet the Queen and “kiss hands” to formalise the transition, and travelled in GYE 329N, a normal unprotected ministerial fleet car
3] after confirmation she was switched to the armoured PRK 421K reserved for sitting PMs for the trip to No.10; due to the extra weight, this apparently sits noticeably lower on its springs during the footage than the other P5Bs.
