very nice car I think. Pity they made some terrible mistakes in the movie - in scene near end, the car is nearly totally wrecked, but in the next scene, it is driving with almost no damage :(

This car had extensive interior modifications. the seats, steering wheel and shifter aren't original.

Jake Hoyt: This car is not from the motor pool.
Alonzo Harris: No, it's not. Sexy, though, isn't it?
Jake Hoyt: So, where's the office, back at division?
Alonzo Harris: You're in the office, baby.

At the end of the film, when Hoyt goes after Harris, he jumps on the car and Harris smashes it into parked cars to shake him off. The car really gets smashed up, yet afterwards we see him driving it towards LAX (LA International Airport) and it doesn't seem badly damaged at all, until the gangsters shoot it up.

like mayorbill11 said, it has extensive interior modifications like custom seats, steering wheel, and shifter. it also has a sunroof, which wasn't standard on any 1979 monte carlos

Another awesome car ruined just to make a death scene look good. Someone please tell me the one shot up was just a shell. If i ever make a movie, no good cars will ever be destroyed in it. Mark my words.

I like the side view mirror, it suits the car very well IMO :)

Alonzo nails it when he says to Hoyt, "Sexy tho, isn't it" in reply to Hoyt's "This is not from the motor pool." In my younger yrs I owned that same model and yr. Mine, of course, was not nearly as sexy as Officer Harris'; just a stock burgandy beautiful Monte Carlo. I loved that car, loved to cruise in it, loved to wash and wax it, brush the seats, on and on. I've heard this described as a 'Muscle Car' but it certainly is not. No oomph, none. But it didn't need it, that's not what its for. Get out on the freeways on a trip, felt like I was driving my couch...pure comfort, with cool to spare.
My favorite Muscle Car is, of course, a 1971 Chevelle SS - for style, power, sex appeal, it can't be beat. Although the '68 Camaro I had was a close second. The Camaro might even have been able to beat the Chevelle in a 1/4 mile track, but I never put them up against each other. I grew up in the muscle car culture of the late 60s and 70s. All the boys had these awesome cars that had to be re-tuned after a night of cruising because they just weren't made to cruise in 1st or 2nd gear all night. What they were best at was fuckin with our local cops. Whatever those little police issue sedans were they couldn't begin to keep up witph us: I'd hang out the right window ridin shotgun and throw a bottle of beer at the windshield of any cop we passed. They'd light it up and squeal out after us and we'd keep it kinda slow at first, make em think they might catch us. We might have 4th gear and overdrive still to use, while the cops were tapped out....."foot was glued like lead to the floor, that's all there is and their ain't more"

I honestly prefer the pre-downsizing land yacht Monte Carlos. This generation of the car just doesn't look right as a smaller car. It'd be like making a Lincoln Town Car the size of a Pontiac 3.
