The RX-5 was presented late 1975 in Frankfurt, early 1976 in Brussels and was August 1976 in Holland. But very few were sold... Most of these coupes were 121, the Cosmo with conventional engine. The RX-5 had rubber overriders, the 121 (like the one shown here) didn't. |

Was this car only made with a Wankel-engine? I was very surprised, when (in 1994 or 1995, I guess), have seen such a Mazda -which was extremely rare in Germany, at least unknown- on our local junkyard - but with a conventional piston-engine. @ Ingo: Laut Autokatalog (1978 bis 1981; ältere Ausgaben hab' ich leider nicht) war der Mazda RX-5 in Deutschland bis 1980 nur mit Wankelmotor erhältlich. Vielleicht war der von Dir gespottete Wagen ein ausländisches (gar niederländisches) Fahrzeug? Oder es war ein aus dem Ausland importiertes Auto? |

Evtl.ein niederländisches, die Nummernschilder fehlten. Oder der Motor wurde getauscht, das war bei Wankel-Autos nicht selten. So gab es RO 80 mit Audi 100/Porsche 924-Motoren, auch mit Alfa Romeo-Boxern. Der letzte RO 80 in Israel hatte eine Subaru 1800-Maschine. |
