1990 MINI Racing Flame Checkmate by plate. Apparently it was originally blue, 1380cc engine |

A small portion of that plate info is correct. It started as a 1990 Rover Mini Flame Red, which was a second coming of the pre-Rover 1989 Mini Flame. This 1990 rebirth was accompanied by the new Checkmate (black/white) and the Racing Green (guess ...) which repeated the 89 Mini Racing which as luck would have it was British Racing Green/white. The ghost of Mini Flame stickers can be seen in a thumb. Plate combination is twaddle - CYD 962A never issued in period. G160 JJW was Birmingham, end of 89, but has been eradicated from the system, as often happens with reg changes. 2022-10-01: Colour change From: RED/WHITE To: BLUE/WHITE -- Last edit: 2024-08-24 00:30:46 |

From the owner: "I ended up buying this one, it was G-reg, 1990, I bought it brand new." There is also another old photo of it with LBL 6D on the bonnet. |

LBL 6D was the 67 Monte winner, #177, preserved in Gaydon collection. Possibly the most frequently modelled Mini ever, in all sorts of scales (and degrees of accuracy). Minichamps made the best 1:43, a dealer issue for MINI showrooms on the Mini 50th anniversary in 2009 ![]() - very rare now and costs squillions if you can find one. But probably worth it for exquisite detail ... |

I get it now, thanks. The photo has the subject Mini's owner standing next to the actual #177 which was evidently the inspiration for his #52 in the thumbs. |

#52 was the 1965 Monte winner, AJB 44B![]() which is also preserved at Gaydon, sometimes displayed with #177 ![]() but late at night, when no-one's looking, they move about a bit ... |

Ok you are right -- I used CYD 962A to find that info, as you said the previous G160 JJW was deleted from the system. |

^ Plate info is sometimes wobbly and has to be untangled to make sense, particularly in cases like this .... |
