It's somewhat more difficult than that. As far as I can see it's painted in 'silver metallic' (Volvo colour code 130) which was introduced in 1977 on the 262 C, and then became rather common for MY:s 1978 onwards. It does also have the 'shiny' front end with reflexes beneath the headlights and a chromed grille. The square shaped door mounted rear view mirrors were standard fittings on the models equipped with the PRV V6 (i.e. 260-series) from MY 1977, while the 240's had to wait until MY 1980. For MY:s 1978 and 1979 it was called 264 GL https://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/Volvo/260/Volvo_US%20260_1979.pdf , but then it becomes even more tricky. For MY:s 1980 onwards Volvo skipped the 240/260 designations and just called it GL, Diesel or GLE, and they were virtually indistinguishably apart from the engine https://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/Volvo/240/Volvo_US%20240_1981.pdf . They looked more or less the same until MY 1983 when they got a different bumper Link to "www.flickr.com" . Conclusion: This is a 264 GL (or 265 GL if estate) if MY:s 1978 or 1979, or a Volvo GL (if having a B21F straight four cylinder engine) if MY 1980 until 1982, or a Volvo Diesel (if having the Volkswagen developed straight six cylinder D24 engine) if MY 1980 until 1982, or a Volvo GLE (if having the PRV V6 B28F engine) if MY 1980 until 1982. -- Last edit: 2024-08-19 23:49:48 |
