Pyrene was a specialised fire truck converter and builder - info here, but nowt looking like this. Online quote "Protein foam was used for fire suppression in aviation crashes until the 1960s development of “light water”, also known as “Aqueous Film-Forming Foam” (or AFFF)." which suggests this is 1960s or thereabouts footage. Plane also looks no younger, but it might be an old wreck for practice squirting. |

Bit of a mystery this, some sort of prototype . My guess on chassis is Bedford RL. It is on Pathe news archive. In colour here along with Shackleton aircraft having a viking funeral- https://www.britishpathe.com/asset/215045/ -- Last edit: 2024-08-15 09:40:04 |

Bedford RL would appear to be a good assumption. It possibly has some design details in common with the RAF MK.8 which used a separate Jaguar engine to power the pump. A roof mounted exhaust is mounted at the rear on both vehicles. https://www.fire-engine-photos.com/picture/number22552.asp Possibly an early development prototype? |
