BMW E28 (5er) |

Without a doubt, this is the best action movie invloving an E28 5-series (`82-`88). 3 black Euro E28's are chasing after George Clooney and company in a silver Mercedes-Benz 500SEL (`91-`93?). It appears as though these models are: 520i, 518i, and 525e. Hard to see badges, due to fast action/speed of vehicles. It appears as though they are `85-`88 model year vehicles (squared off top of head-rest, not curved like `82-`84 E28 headrests). Note the proper plastic, BMW wheel covers, only used on lower-end BMW Euro models. Overall, this is a tremendously cool scene. Must see! The scene last about 5 minutes. The cars fish-tail quite a bit and spin their tires often. Saddly all the BMW's get destroyed by this massive Mercedes. Totally amazing. |

I saw all the badges: they are three blue 520 E28, 1985 model. When one of them lost its wheelcover, it appear to have the old-style wheels though. Very hard and aggressive drive, and some good shots of them are possible (interior/exterior, before and after the damages). Not much of the sounds are heard, but they seem original BMW sounds. Sadly all of them got destroyed: the first was pulled by the backward 500 SEL into a store, the second was pushed against an hydrant and hits some tables of a bar, exploding, and George Clooney destroyed the third jumping over it with the MB. Btw, I noticed that in that scene of the jump the car was probably cut on C-pillar. This was one of the most violent chases involving a BMW or a Mercedes! -- Last edit: 2007-02-13 17:59:42 |

As illustrated in your thumbnails, the roof is dismembered before suddenly reappearing in the final shot. |

Actually nice cars (My grandfather had one), although this movie portrays them as crappy shitboxes. -- Last edit: 2017-07-31 10:01:22 (night cub) |

[quote=MercedesAMG]The scene where the roof is sheared off from the bad guys black BMW when the Mercedes slams into it always puzzled me. Then I watched a documentary on how the structural rigidity of movie stunt vehicles is heavily compromised by the stunt coordinators using grinders and hack saws to achieve the desired effect. As noted in the action scene the roof shears off like a hot knife threw butter but in the next scene the roof is folded back over the car. In that scene it is very clear to see where on the “c” pillar of the black BMW the roof was actually cut to allow for the desired effect. More than likely the passenger side A B and C Pillars were cut through completely and the structural frame of the A B C pillars on the driver side was partially cut through to allow the roof to lift and fold. |
