1974–89 North American lights and bumpers, with 1972–79 headrests. Most likely a 1974–79 450SL imported from the United States before the revolution in 1979. Do we have a picture of the rear?

Okay, so I definitely wouldn't rely on those emblems. It says 6.9, for Christ's sake. I would call this a 1974+ 450SL.

Front antenna means that it is an early one, 1971-1974. Seeing that it looks like a US model, that would limit it to a 1972 model year.

Might be a French plate behind the front plate. Doesn't help really, except a hint that this SL has travelled widely. I can imagine someone might put a 6.9 badge on as a joke, but can't really imagine someone removing a 450SL badge and replacing it with 350SL. So probably genuine.

Some things to keep in mind:

- The 350SL was only sold in the US for 1972 before it was renamed 450SL for 1973
- 1974 was the first year to have these big bumpers
- 1974 was the last year to have the have the antenna mounted to the front fender

I would still call this a 1974 Mercedes-Benz 450SL North American-spec.

I agree with you, but think about how much more work it would be to convert the lights and bumpers to North American-spec rather than just switching out two emblems.

Maybe the trunk was replaced after an accident, but it is still strange not to keep the 450 SL badge
