Looks like it has a third brake light, so brand new 1986 model I guess |

Third brakelight is on the trunk for factory version, not inside the rear window. This one may have aftermarket third taillight fitted in... I would go for 1981/85. |

Why in the world would anyone do that though? Especially on an Escort... |

My father added one on his Renault 11 in mid 90s, so why not on an Escort? |

Yes, why not? Around 1979/80 it was getting very popular in Germany to mount a holder with two extra brakelights in the backscreen. It was recommended by the autoclub ADAC, the ministery or transportation and so on. The joke is, some yars later it was getting illegal again. But some more years later the third brakelight in the middle of the back was coming. The first ones you could find on US-versions, then it was mounte on the other cars, too. As I know, these aftermarket two brakelights of the 80ies are still illegal. I don't know why. Anyways, I think, if you want to have a stylish 80ies-retro-car, you should mount them. Sometimes you can find them, even orignal packed NOS-stuff, on oldtimer-markets. -- Last edit: 2008-08-23 22:03:05 |

What's the point the though? It certainly not a "style" issue, and it only makes the car a tiny bit safer, so why go to the trouble (even for a car better than an Escort)? |
