Sidelights and the sturdy door mirror indicates a manufacturing date post January 1st 1968 and the lack of chrome on the A-pillar makes this a W108 rather than a W109. The grey colour makes it likely to have been made early rather than late in production. That is because of an investigation published in 1967 that came up with the conclusion that bright colours are more visible in traffic. Albeit grey stayed in production it became less and less common as a chosen colour. Hence I believe it's a 1968+ Mercedes-Benz 280 S or 280 SE, or, very unlikely, a 250 S. The latter was only made in a few hundreds in 1968 before it ended production, and I'm not sure whether it was sold in the USA or not. |

Entered as 280 SE because it's got whitewalls. This may or may not be a reliable decision ..... |

I don't know, but I'll search some old American magazines if they come up with something... |
