"And this is the vehicle in which we'll be making the epic voyage. It's an Austin Ambassador. It's a Y-reg. It's a deep chocolate brown interior. Lovely"

Dad had its twin, if you slammed the tailgate the paint on the roof above the hinges would crack.

Customised with Montego wheel covers. And crunchy sills - here's a crunchier one found online

Corrected info - those particular wheel trims came from a scrapyard Maestro Clubman.

ARonline has a geeky but fascinating account of the Ambassador's only export market - Ireland, where 110 were sold. There were never any LHDs, and no other markets outside UK. That page gets even more interesting - hard to believe but true - in the comments when John Shuttleworth himself joins the discussion with anecdotes about his two Ambassadors, including issues which many others of us experienced in the 1980s using C-120 cassettes in car stereos - C-90s were much safer.
