Was Classic a trim level? Are you sure this is a Classic?

No, I suppose I'm not 100%. The Classic was the upper level Caprice for sedans 86'-90' but all wagons were Classics except for 1987 when a base Caprice wagon was offered for just that one year.

Given the circumstances of this scene, might this actually be a funeral car? I think somebody mentioned something about "first-response" cars that are just wagons with blacked out windows.

It's a Coroner's car, in American films they often wheel dead bodies into station wagons with CORONER written on the side.

1st call cars, yes. But these normally have vinyl covered rear quarters (+ often landau bows) instead of smoked windows. So this one maybe plays the role of a 1st-caller, but actually seems to be just a station wagon.

I agree with julian due to thick trim at the rocker panel.
