Bond chases after General Ourumov (who has taken Natalya hostage) in this tank, creating much mayhem and destruction in St. Petersburg. After Ourumov gets away on the armoured missle train, Bond parks the tank on the railway track and the train crashes into it, destroying the tank and derailing the train. -- Last edit: 2012-01-23 23:13:12 (G-MANN) |

If you must, then "Zavod imeni V.O. Malysheva", or in English: Malyshev Plant. |

The tank parked on the tracks is a replica made from a Saracne APC. Plus Film Services needed to make this because the Russians didn't want them driving a real T-55 through the streets. Most of the Tank Driving scenes using the Real Tank was done on a film set. You can see the flimsy body popping apart in the picture above as it is hit by the train in the last picture above. |

as Bond jumps into the car park through the window where the tanks are parked, you can clearly see that most of the parked "T55" tanks are actually ex British Chieftain Tanks with bits added by the props dept to make them look like T55s!. |

as of march 19, 2009 this actual tank was bought by james bond collector Peter Nelson from a guy in Sussex...the aim is to display it with his other Bond related vehicles in his new james Bond Museum which is due to open in a few days time in the Lake District town of Keswick in cumbria, UK..the same guy also owns the Car Of The Stars Museum in the same town...to purchase the vehicle for an undesclosed sum he got a bank loan from the Penrith branch of NatWest..the proposed site for the Bond museum is in the former Caterite building on the Southey Hill trading estate..its hoping to open next month..april....information from The News and Star paper,19 March 2009. |

It seems to me, that it is older T-54 - on a top view there is probably visible a ventilator dome on a turret, behind a gun (compare /vehicle_165576-Malyshev-T-54.html ) |

update, ex czech T54-1 , two were bought, and mocked up to look like T55s, and an aditional repro body was mounted on a 6 wheel british army saladin armoured car so as not to damage the roads, also the tank in the chase had its steel tracks replaced with british army chieftain tank rubber block ones to protect the road surface, the tank in the chase was sold in 2009 to peter nelson as stated, the standby tank was sold privately and turns up on the preservation scene in the uk regularly, the mock up was destroyed in the film when the train hits it. |

The dummy tank built on a Saladin armoured car was NOT destroyed during filming, as often claimed. I saw it in undamaged condition in Moscow in April 1996, some months after the film had premiered. At that time it was loaded on a British-registered trailer parked behind my hotel. |
