I am unsure of the proper nomenclature for this one... there are a few wikipedia pages on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babs_%28Land_speed_record_car%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitty_Bang_Bang#Chitty_4 According to the program, it has a 27 Liter airplane engine and was a Land Speed record contender. -- Last edit: 2008-07-03 05:35:58 |

I'd use just "Chitty" as make and 4 as model. From what I understand from Wikipedia, "Chitty Bang Bang" was more the nickname. (just my opinion, I may be wrong) -- Last edit: 2008-07-03 19:28:32 |

This car is the Higham special in which JG Parry-Thomas lost his life trying for the world land speed record at Pendine Sands (Wales) in 1927. The car was originally built in 1923 by Count Louis Zborowski as the fourth of his Aero engined Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang cars. Being the last and the largest he named it the Higham Special. http://www.racingcampbells.com/content/campbell.archives/babs.parry.thomas.asp Chitty Bang Bang is some sort of mock up driven by Dick van Dyke (allegedly) and has absolutely no connexion with Babs, aside from Ian Fleming pinching part of the name. I suggest that this car, a unique item and memorial to the great engineer Parry-Thomas is referred to as Higham Special "Babs", unless anyone wants to do something else. Please get rid of "Chitty", it's an insult to a great car and a great man. -- Last edit: 2008-07-03 20:19:37 |
