This is not a Caprice, but rather a 1968 Impala Sport Sedan (pillarless 4-door hardtop). The Caprice came with hidden headlamps which, even when open, did not have the chrome bezel of the Impala, Bel Air & Biscayne. It is not one of the latter two as they did not come as pillarless 4-doors. Misleading, however, is the fact that this car has Caprice wheelcovers, which were quite different from the ones on the lesser models. It also has an after-market decorative strip (silver paint?) on the lower doors just above the thin strip of chrome. This strip came only on Impalas. Caprice had quite a different side decoration which ran all the way to the rear bumper through the fender skirts. Because of the fender skirts, there was no chrome surround on the rear wheel opening. The surround is visible on this car. |

It is confirmed 1968 Chevrolet Caprice 4 door hardtop. There is an optional headlight cover available in the Caprice series. The rear skirt is also an option available in the Caprice series. If this is an Impala series, you will find the inscription at the front fender. Since this picture does not have any inscription on the front fender, but has the inscription at the bottom of the roof quarter. Can anybody else confirm this finding? |
