Plate says it’s 1927, but it looks a bit older to me. However… |

After some searching more information...![]() Leyland Q-Types were 4-tonners from about 1925, the QH being a 6-Ton. Not all of the Q-Types had the double louvre sets. Possibly added later? ![]() Some or all of the 5-Ton 1920 Model P trucks (presumably preceding the Q-TYPE?) also had the same double louvres. |

Still on solids, but the subject is on pneumatics. This would have been a bit of a changeover period on heavier vehicles as those on solids were restricted to 12mph, but pneumatics were still a bit new at that weight. |

I have found one Leyland press photo from January 1927 of a similar truck on pneumatics but with shaped (not flat) wings. The Commercial Motor at the time, 1927-9, said conversion to pneumatics had too many problems to be feasible. One being the wheels, being spaced-out, increased the track and the flat wings no longer cover the complete tyre. The truck in the movie has possibly been converted later in the 1930s. Another four photos 1929-30 show pneumatics on the front but solids on the back for load bearing; conversions or factory-originals is unknown. However the vast majority of original Leyand trucks of the late 1920s are on solids. -- Last edit: 2023-08-08 19:51:52 |
