How was the R Volga different from the standard M-21? |

GAZ-21R - is a basic model of Volga in 1965-1970. There were four series: 1) GAZ-M21 (1956-58), also known as "star" ( /vehicle_344435-GAZ-M-21-Volga-1957.html ); 2) GAZ-21I (or GAZ-M-21I), 1958-62, also known as "shark's mouth" ( /vehicle_148858-GAZ-M-21-Volga-1958.html ); 3) GAZ-21L (or GAZ-M-21L), 1962-65, aslo known as "whalebone" ( /vehicle_1123603-GAZ-M-21-Volga-1962.html ); 4) GAZ-21R (1965-70). The external differences from GAZ-21L were insignificant: in particular, longer windscreen wipers. -- Last edit: 2023-07-29 19:43:28 |

Interesting! In my opinion, the 1962-'70 Volga more fits the "shark's mouth" nickname due to the grille more resembling teeth. They certainly are ominous-looking in black. |
