It's a late 1970's Dodge Diplomat. |

I might be wrong but wasn't the first Dodge diplomat released in 1981. Before 1981 you had the St Regis , Newport volare aspen etc. I think this car would most likely be either an aspen or volare |

The Diplomat first appeared in 1977, as a 2 or 4 door, in standard or Medallion trim. A wagon joined them in 1978. |

I'm not sure what this is other then a first gen M-body: has the trunk and tail lights of a LeBaron, yet the headlight assembly (turn signals below headlights) is from a Diplomat -- Last edit: 2010-10-02 06:41:08 |

As Meatballs was filmed in Canada this could be a Plymouth Caravelle. |

Maybe it's a LeBaron and the front clip was somehow demolished, only to be replaced with that of a Diplomat??? |

Never seen a Diplomat like this before |

Do you mean that you've never seen a 1st-generation Diplomat, or that you've never seen one with these taillights? Can't say that I disagree if the later... -- Last edit: 2015-04-28 22:41:01 |

You might be right; most Caravelle coupes I've found have these taillights coupled with Dodge-style turn-indicators... |

The taillights are too hard to make out for either (they pretty much have the same design, just accented differently). I would say the fender badge and the badge above the taillight match the Dodge better (the Plymouth had large, cursive badges and not block letters like the Diplomat), but it's missing the "D-O-D-G-E" lettering on the trunk lid (above the lock). Leaning towards the Caravelle, the trunk lettering could be the "P-L-Y-M-O-U-T-H" (under the lock). I think the key is the hood ornament. Blown up, the picture shows a round hood ornament; Caravelles had silver round ones, Diplomats had red square hood ornaments. I'd say it's a Caravelle. |

According to the Wikipedia, it was introduced as 1978 model year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Caravelle#Canada |
