Do you need a Heavy Goods Vehicle licence to drive that thing? |
◊ 2023-06-26 14:42 |
Not in 1979, and not today. |

They're actually a lot easier to drive than you might expect. I knew a guy who had one and they said it's really easy. Interesting fact. The reason they're so popular in the US among the rich is because of the '6000 Pound Vehicle Tax Deduction'. Any civilian vehicle over 6,000 pounds can have the total depreciation value deducted in the first year, rather than depreciating the asset over several years. The only caveat is that 50% of the miles used each year has to come from 'business use'. But the tax code is so broad simply commuting to work, going to meet a client, or picking up supplies would count towards the milage. And with cars getting so big, there are dozens of cars that qualify. |

^ Probably fine in US where roads are bigger, and parking spaces etc, plus a culture of big cars. But in UK very different, roads and streets are narrower, small parking spaces, and things like multi-story car parks are much tighter - put one of these in a typical nose entry line and there wouldn't be enough room to open the doors. There was a story a week or 2 back that multi-story car park engineers are getting seriously worried about the weight of large SUVs and/or battery-heavy EVs approaching maximum load-bearing capacity of these structures, built when cars were smaller and lighter. |

In my state, a regular driver's license allows you to drive any vehicle up to 13 tons That's why we have tons of idiots driving rental box trucks and pulling huge trailers. It does remind me of family friends, who moved to London for two years in the 1980s and they brought their 1978 Chevy Malibu, that their teenage daughters weren't allowed to drive there because they were under 21. At home, they drove an even bigger 1974 Olds Delta 88 with no problems. |

Yeah I think we read the same article, it talked a lot about the NYC garage collapse from the spring. Also, in addition to garages, the EVs and bigger cars are causing increased wear on infrastructure like roads. Also, the AMG in the model name should be deleted |

Why?? I don't know these things but it's got lots of friends now as G 63 instead of G63. |
◊ 2023-06-27 00:51 |
I meant it was originally titled as G 63 AMG (I added the AMG to my comment above by mistake) but since the make is called Mercedes-AMG. Having Mercedes-AMG G 63 AMG is redundant. |

In respect of the difficulty of driving it, I have no doubt that reck961 is correct, the possibility of an elderly person of small stature driving one would mean it has power assisted everything. It’s more a question of legislation and relative sizes as mentioned by others. I also find it surprising that as the world is boiling away faster and faster, there is tax law that not only permits, but positively encourages the use of such behemoths. |

Welcome to 'Murica! You have to consider that 4 of our top 6 selling vehicles are fullsize pickups, that make the G-Wagens look like Minis. |

to do everything you can do with a regular, normal , tiny car like my Versa.. on the other hand, car market is dying in NA ( at least from the Big Three ) so customers don't really have the choice to buy pick-up/SUVs.. |

Is the car market dying because the American buyer doesn’t buy them, or because the American industry can’t make enough profit on them? Surely not every American driver wants to be a sort of modern Davy Crockett? |
◊ 2023-06-27 17:24 |
i'd say profit.. i mean the Corolla still has a fair share of sales . If Toyota can find a decent amount of buyers for it, GM / Ford /Chrysler should be able to do same.. maybe a mix of both after all.. to do some profit you have to sell a certain amount of vehicles.. if you can't sell, its hard to get profit from them.. i'm sure that given the choice , some of those Davy Crockett out there would drive a car ( Davy Crockett is kind of ironic since only a marginal number of those vehicles will ever enter in the woods.. ) -- Last edit: 2023-06-27 17:25:09 |

A slightly unwanted Versa? |
◊ 2023-06-27 19:44 |
honestly its more the color than the model that is slightly unwanted.. ok, Versa was not my 1st overall pick either but if it was the color i wanted it would be a little bit better -- Last edit: 2023-06-27 19:45:51 |

Maybe this one .... |
◊ 2023-06-27 20:21 |
You mean you ordered it in a colour and was delivered in another one? |
◊ 2023-06-28 04:09 |
no, it was bought used . I was in need for a car real quick and one of my cousins is a car salesman . The only one i could afford was the Versa . He had two of them but i had choice between white and white... Blue ones look so much better.. very tempting.. maybe the next one if it still available.. -- Last edit: 2023-06-28 04:14:25 |

I am driving a brilliant white Volvo V60 B3 at present, I feel very conspicuous and I really want my Mercédès back! -- Last edit: 2023-06-28 09:06:48 |

how did you ended up with the V60 ? |
◊ 2023-06-28 09:46 |
My car was reversed into in a car park. It also had a couple of minor scrapes, so it is all being done, but as the repairs will take ten days I was offered a courtesy car. It was the only estate car they had available. There is nothing wrong about it, but it is annoying to me as it is quite like the Mercedes in concept, but different in detail. The worst part is that I keep trying to change from Forward to Reverse with the windscreen wiper lever. -- Last edit: 2023-06-28 10:42:05 |

It's kinda annoying seeing some brands killing off their sedans and hatchbacks, ones that were doing just fine over here in West Asia but because the major global markets are shifting towards crossovers, they couldn't justify keeping the former on production anymore. It's either that or crossovers are somehow being treated as heavy trucks and thus have more relaxed emission/fuel economy regulations? I dunno but i still partially believe in a car market where both Crossovers & Sedans co-exist, maybe not in 20 years later but for now that is. Coming from a Land Cruiser owner, i've been appreciating my dad's 2019 Sunny (Versa/Almera) more and more lately. Sorry for the offtopic. -- Last edit: 2023-06-28 11:44:05 |

And also haulin' stuff because the properties are much bigger. US states would lure immigrants from Europe by offering them any amount of acres they wanted, on the condition they would farm the land... That's also good for the gene pool as it would attract the more enterprising types. |
