The odds of seeing an obscure late 1960s Toyota prototype race car designed by an Australian, in the late 1970s/80s TV Series are probably 1 in 1 million... but never zero. After all, the car was designed in California.

This forum member on chickslovethecar claims that his Toyota JP6 was on the set of Back to the Future 2, although it was away from the camera.

The last comment on this page mentions that the car has been used in numerous movies and TV shows (although it doesn't mention "Fantasy Island").

Here is a couple of appearances :

He also mentions that it had a VW engine and drivetrain, which would make sense.

My conclusion is that this is a Toyota JP6 body shell with VW components.

^Right! Absolutely it's the JP6. Even though these wheels/chassis(?) make it look cartoonish. Here in its period proper form [Image: jp6_06.jpg]

Just on this - the designer was American, not Australian (although the two do get confused). It was designed by Pete Brock (also know for BRE Datsuns which are expensive as Hot Wheels and his work with Shelby), not Peter Brock (known for winning Bathurst).

Interestingly, Pete Brock designed the Shelby Daytona Coupe. Peter Brock died driving a Daytona Coupe, a replica of that car.

The wheel gap suggests to me this is a replica...

Looking for development story, it seems the origin should be USA.

Still Toyota sort of contracted Brock to design it so they were not unrelated to the project. Anyway I am not sure how origins work. In some other "sad" news there's more info in addition to s13's research above that suggests this is a VW kitcar with a copycat body made from the mould of the original. I know it looked funny but I hoped it would at least have the original body.

this FB link is useless can't copy from it so instead I copied from fred1969's and 130rapid's link "...Brock focused on studying a prototype that could run at the Japan GP and possibly Le Mans. The project is called 400S at Toyota, but for Brock it's JP6... A first prototype is well advanced... Toyota decides to remove the project from Brock's hands and hand it over to Yamaha for completion... sent to Japan at the end of 1968... early 1969 but was destroyed in an accident. We won't see her again... Brock.. will use this study to present "Project No. 6" to the press in 1970...no P-6 will ever be built.. mould was sold to a company that wanted to produce the car as a kit on a VW chassis. This project was also abandoned, but a copy was built on a VW base for a Hollywood film...

So what to call this? A Toyota Replica or just another made for movie?
