Seems like a lightly customized '38 LaSalle. |

The customizing is part of the conversion: This is an S&S Damascus with hand-carved gothic-style wooden panels, reminiscent of the traditional horse-drawn hearses - in other words pretty much the most archconservative hearse styling you could get in the 'streamlined' late 1930s. This is one of the final funeral coaches built by the original Sayers and Scovill Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. Four years later, long-time employees Willard C. Hess and Charles A. Eisenhardt Jr. bought all the remains and assets and reorganized the company, now named "Hess & Eisenhardt". The S&S label was now used as trade name for their professional cars and still can be found on current funeral coaches. 1938 Lasalle Hearse |

Here is another view of the same car. The grille looks different from that of a 1938 Lasalle, unless the customizers changed the grille. |

^ Yes, it's what they did: S&S added various chrome moldings to the grille and the hood - you can also see them in the picture I posted above. By the way: The S&S Damascus was also available as Town Car with open driver's cabin. |
