Looks almost identical to a Mercury of the same year! |

... but at the same time shrunken to fit European sizing, which gives it a somewhat quirky design. Other examples of European cars following American designs of the period include Ford Consul/Zephyr/Zodiac MkI (inspired by 49-51 Ford), Singer SM1500 and Borgward Hansa 1500 (both inspired by Kaiser), Borgward Hansa 2400 (inspired by Hudson) and the Hotchkiss Gregoire - which is unique in its own way but rather overstyled in my opinion (this does not apply to the coupé, of course). Here's a dressed-up Mercury in An American in Paris, posing as a Vedette: |

I understand that this design was originally for a small model for the American market. But it was eventually discarded, and Ford used it for their new French model. |
