Can't see the number but it must be one of the Mercedes W196s at the 1954 German Grand Prix. |

Not a Mercedes. Might be a scene shot specially - in the 1954 German GP, Ferrari #1 was shared by Gonzalez (yellow helmet) and Hawthorn (dark blue helmet), and in 1953 when some scenes were shot #1 was Ascari who always wore a light-blue helmet and shirt. If it WAS shot during the '54 GP, it must be Theo Helfrich in a Klenk-Meteor-BMW (updated Veritas F2) - see http://www.silhouet.com/motorsport/archive/f1/1954/54d.html If it is the '53 GP, there were several silver German BMW-powered cars but the most likely is Hans Hermann in a Veritas. |

Discussion of the red Ferrari suggests 1954 German GP - full entry list. The Klenk Meteor idea (with #22) seems the most likely candidate for something silver apart from the factory Mercs, but am not sure it looks like the same - shorter and taller?? But equally Merc W196 doesn't instantly convince me. |
