![]() The above picture is labelled as a 1939 9N tractor. It has a flathead engine, apparently based on half a Ford V8. The subject tractor seems to have an ohv engine, which is correct, or either or neither? -- Last edit: 2022-10-30 13:18:37 |

The half-V8, flat-head as I understand it. As the tractor was developed in about 8 months Ford engineers used as many standard parts as possible, although the engine block was completely new. The picture shows the earliest pressed steel horizontal grille type tractor (some very early tractors also had aluminium bonnets due to the speed of getting them into production). ![]() However as I see them, they look to have similar engines in both tractors? There are no better views and the restored tractor could have a slightly taller looking engine from what little is seen. But the slight viewing angle difference means you cannot see daylight under the gap with the bonnet. I cannot say what the small white object above what looks like an oil filter is; but I guess its not a side mounted spark plug. -- Last edit: 2022-10-30 14:27:24 |
