Actually they kept that design of Suburban through 1991. In 1992 it was then built on the new(at the time) Chevy pickup platform. |

The suburban is either a 1985-87 model.like nubby said the grill on the 1988 was more stylish and then changed over to the new style in 1989. |

Upon watching the movie, the fording scene, for a truck like the Burb, and despite the snorkel, could it actually get across?, I would think that the Alternator would short from flooding, and what with water getting into the exhaust pipe, well, the movie gives the impression it'd make it, but, it does seem a little hard to believe. Someone, prove me wrong. |

If my little Geo can do it with just a snorkel I would think that a Suburban could also do it...![]() |

Could it get across? With a snorkel, yes. Without a snorkel, no. The air intake feed for this generation is next to the low beam headlamp (upper head light on the passenger side). For a factory unit, its mounted high, but obviously the Suburban was driven in water over the hood, by professional drivers, not Pierce Brosnan. The real question is could it have made it across in rear-wheel-drive. Not once do they show Harry Dalton (Pierce Brosnan) shifting the Suburban from rear-wheel-drive to 4-wheel-drive, nor do they show him shifting the Suburban to 4-wheel-drive low range with off road reduction gearing. Clearly the Suburban used is four-wheel-drive as it has the GM Corporate live axle with offset front differential and locking front hubs. The 4x4 is used for the exterior shots including the water fording scene. Having said that, there is one goof in the fording scene, when the camera shows water flowing into the vehicles forward floor board, there is no transfer case shifter. Which means another non-four-wheel-drive vehicle was used. Likely that interior scene was filmed in a controlled setting. -- Last edit: 2010-08-05 03:28:10 |

Just to correct nubby's earlier comment: The 1988 models retained the same grille as the 1985-1987's. The picture in his link shows what the 1989-1991 model grilles looked like. |

actualy in the scenes were they are driving though the ally way , i noticed the first time i saw the movie , that they used a 2 wd modle for some of the scenes .http://www.imcdb.org/res/smileys/no.gif , it is clear in that scene when they show the front wheel , that u can see that the truck is much lower to the ground , and u can also see some of the wishbone ifs ( indipindant front suspenson ) conponits , they just took a peace of pip , made it look like a hub lock and added it as a center cap .http://www.imcdb.org/res/smileys/lol.gif |
