I don’t think this is a Birdcage, its fenders have more bulging lines; my guess would rather be a mildly modified A6 GCS Fantuzzi Spyder - if it is a Maserati. I’m not quite sure it is. |

Has anybody considered the possibility that it might be a Shelby AC Cobra? |

Well, the car is a Chevrolet-powered, American-built special; I stumbled on it accidentally on a site dedicated to old racing cars: http://www.tamsoldracecarsite.net/OtherSpecials1.html#Other%20Specials%201 The spelling of the name varies according to the source, browsing the period entry lists you will find it both as „Roadrunner” and as „Road Runner”, with the suffix Special, Chevrolet, or both. Some more googling revealed that it was also known as L & S Special (scroll down to #97): http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/Laguna_Seca-1961-10-22-photo.html By the time the film was shot, some changes had apparently been made to its bodyshell - the most remarkable one is the addition of a lower side cover panel. -- Last edit: 2008-04-28 06:34:36 |
