Last 1192cc "1200" engine was offer in USA in 1965. I believe they introduced larger "1300" engine in 1966, not sure though. Maybe USA VW 'Bug' fanatic out there would know better than I do.

 :D VW fanatatics can explain everything.
Here the salesman is saying that the rear position of engine is the best, because is more safe for it during the frontal crash... quite strong argument. And generally the car "isn't young, but the make is important".
