It’s a 1986–91 model because of the diagonal-pattern leather inserts inside the door panels, signifying the revised interior. The car’s color combination appears to be Midnight Blue (904) on Grey leather (284). It’s also a long-wheelbase version (SEL) because of the rear passenger window’s pillar being thicker and featuring the body color in the center. So to narrow it down as far as we can, this is a 1986–91 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL, 420SEL, 500SEL, or 560SEL. We’ll never know the exact model since the film doesn’t show the back of the car, which would show us the trunk lid badge. -- Last edit: 2021-12-27 18:16:43 |

Nice find! I had searched a bunch of places but couldn’t find any behind-the-scenes photos. I guess my eyes had deceived me in the theater about it being an SEL; it appears to be a 500SE after all. I was also wrong about it being Midnight Blue (904). The color grading in post-production made it look that way, but the behind-the-scenes photo makes it look like Blue Black Metallic (199). As @dhill_db7 pointed out, there was indeed a factory option to remove the trunk lid badging. My pre-facelift ‘85 500SEL (coincidentally in Midnight Blue) was ordered with that option, so most people have no idea what model it is unless they’re experts. -- Last edit: 2021-12-28 08:14:07 |
