I remember that episode. Really for a car chase there were few less suitable vehicles! The Sherbornd of 1936 was the last Ten before the Cambridge. There had been little mechanical development since 1932, but the weight had gone up by 4 cwt, to 19cwt. As a result, 0- 50mph came up in 42 seconds, about ten seconds longer than the early cars, and maximum speed was 54- 56mph. It was also the ugliest Austin ten, with an awkward outswept tail and oversize wheels. For £40 less money a Ford Model C would reach 50 in 24 seconds and do 63mph--still not car chase material, but much beter than the Austin!

Mon ami, methinks the humourous tortoise-hare subplot is intentional.
