It looks like it’s telling you! The side mount suggests 2 1/2 litre, SS Jaguar, if my theory is correct, since the 3 1/2 litre engine was not listed until 1938 and, I think, coincided with the deletion of the side mounted spare. The change of name to just Jaguar came with the company changing its name to Jaguar Cars Ltd in March 1945. So: 1937 SS Jaguar 2 1/2 litre Saloon. -- Last edit: 2021-06-15 09:58:34 |

Assuming it is the same Jaguar Heritage Trust car... 1937 SS Jaguar 2½ Litre Saloon 'CDU 700' "Lady Lyons Car" https://www.jaguarheritage.com/car/1937-ss-jaguar-2%c2%bd-litre-saloon/ This car was used by William Lyons’ wife, Mrs Greta Lyons (later Lady Lyons) for her own personal transport until 1946, and was then retained by Jaguar Cars. It is therefore known as the Lady Lyons Car. |

Can't find any trace of WDU 71Y as a real plate, but did find another pic online of this occasion with William Lyons and John Egan No clue what/when the event was, but I guess the S3 is XJ12 with wheels and headlight wipers. |

Perhaps someone can comment upon the non standard radiator badge, I can’t really see it well enough to offer a view. The information above does, at least, vindicate my nuts and bolts identification of the make and model. -- Last edit: 2021-06-15 12:13:22 |

The best I can find for Lady Lyons Car's badge... (enlarged) 'G' or 'GL' in place of the normal 'SS' badge perhaps? As a best guess from another picture two letters so 'GL'? -- Last edit: 2021-06-15 12:34:58 |

The badge is correct. The letters within the larger portion of blue enamel read "SS". The wording below - again within a blue enamelled border - read "Jaguar". Car is chassis #12,462. -- Last edit: 2023-10-15 17:16:53 |

WDU71Y correctly identified by Sunbar as an XJ6. |
