We've identified this vehicle using the details you provided ALVIS UNKNOWN 1934 Registration number: NG 8267 Body type: Sports Colour: Red And Black Date of first registration: August 1978 NG 8267 is chassis 11218, Speed 20 SB body by “Joe and the Boys” Johore, Malaysia. (scroll down here). "My pride and joy over all the years has to be the restoration of an 1933 Alvis and the provenance this wonderful car has is awesome too. The car was first delivered in 1934 to a Captain C.B. Wilson in Neatishead, Norwich. It was then sold to Squadron Leader Leslie Waldergrave Bainbridge-Hawker, an RAF Spitfire pilot who had it shipped to Malaysia when he was sent there. While there disaster struck and the car was burnt out and was then restored and converted from a four seater to a two seater. I am completely in awe of the engineers who re-built her as they had none of the mechanised body work aides at their disposal that we have today. The reason for the conversion was so the Alvis could compete in rallying in Asia, which also necessitated that she could run at 100mph! She competed seven times in the Kuala Lumpur vintage Grand Prix, winning it once. After this she fell into disrepair and by the time she returned to Norfolk after the pilot had died, was a complete wreck. I worked, lovingly on just her with the bodywork alone taking nine months. She is staying in Norfolk now, with her Norfolk born owner and has become his pride and joy also. I am lucky enough to still look after her and have several trips out in her and this year was filled with pride when she took place in the Wells Carnival Parade." from here. |
