It look like one, but 1959 introduction in a 1959 film? |

Ford Prefect 107E not released before July 1959 I think. https://105eoc.com/history/prefect/107e-or-100e/?v=79cba1185463 However the chromed dog-leg looks genuine. UK movie release date 23 June 1959, so latest is spring 1959 filming, unless supplied specially by Ford, 107E should not be possible. All filming of the car was done in Windsor. The car did seem an unusual choice for the role. Attempts to get the tegistration failed so far. Best guess is '869 MMP' -- Last edit: 2021-05-17 15:16:09 |

Ignoring the dog-leg trim, it has Oct 57+ triangular badge on wing, which should also mean larger rear window, but can't decide. Pimple hubcaps were 100E, and 869 MMP was Middlesex Sept 57-June 58 "allocated in blocks" (123 MHP and MWP didn't happen, MNP was end 1963), so a 58 100E ticks the boxes apart from the dog-leg. |

The length and location of the gear lever says 100E I believe. 100E compared 197E shorter and more rearwards. -- Last edit: 2021-05-17 16:27:03 |

Thanks for that. Not only was the gear lever longer on the 100E, as shown, but it controlled a gearbox with only three speeds and a yawning gap between second and top gears. As the hill got steeper and the revs dropped you had to be ready for a quick change into second, and the racket from the sv four as it hit peak revs. I have not driven a 107E but I have driven both 100E and 105E, and I know which power train I prefer! -- Last edit: 2021-05-17 20:09:33 |
