..all these abandoned Morris Commercials which make up the pier are actually non running plywood props made for the movie..the basic chassis used are Land Rovers..there are no genuine wartime Morris Commercial pieces anywhere in these props..so they should be listed as Made For Movie..they were made as "new" vehicles, then buried and weathered by the props dept in situ..the street scenes feature genuine 6x4 40mm bofors gun tractor Morris Commercials..some of those fitted with breakdown gantrys were converted for the film. There is at least 1 genuine example of a CDSW breakdown truck in the movie (currently 2009 road registered in the Uk as HSV391, a genuine CDSW breakdown,it rarely makes public appearances on the military vehicle scene..see the Citroen 11 listed picture..the pic features genuine Morris Commercials...filmed on Redcar beach in the UK..the morris in the thumbnail having its radiator attacked by the soldiers rifle butt is also a fake..the vehicle to its right in the thumbnail is original,as is the 40mm Bofors AA gun.all the artillery pieces are real, other real vehicles are Bedford O series..Scammell Pioneer recovery, Bedford OY, Austin Light Utility, Bren Carrier, AEC Matador Tractor, Austin saloon (which appears in a UK street scene and also abandoned on the beach next to bandstand (gets around this one!!)....other fakes are the WW1 type trucks, the large shipwreck (which was brought in on the back of a truck), and the bandstand which was made from scaffolding poles..also a great deal of the building frontage was also faked by the props dept.

Add to the real vehicles on set-Commer Q2 GS lorry and Humber staff car. There was also a Bedford MJ but this was covered over with camouflage nets. The Bedford OY and AEC Matador were used to transport gear around the set between takes and performed well on the soft sand.
I don't think the Morris Commercial 6x4 recovery gear was false I think it was a genuine CDSW recovery truck. Why would they make imitation recovery gear for a correct period background vehicle ?

one of the Military Vehicle trusts newsletters makes mention of the truck as being a genuine Morris Commercial ex Bofors tractor being fitted with replica gear.
