I think it's an A Type. |

From February 1957 the A Type was replaced by the D Type truck being essentially the same but with GM-sourced engines. This therefore is a 1957-1958 D Type truck. I am still uncertain about the re-styled front end but believe it only applied to the D Type. Although other D Types also appear on the internet with the older style front, its probable that either the restyle appeared after the change from A to D Type, or as I think likely, it was only applied to heavier (D5 and D6) truck range in a similar manner to the following J5 models being different to the J1-J4. Edit: the re-styled front end applied to 3, 4 and 5 ton D types, but the 25cwt, 35cwt and 2 ton D type trucks had the front from the A type. It was replaced in September 1958 by the J type. Edit 2: The primary reason for the new grille was a larger radiator on the heavier trucks. Therefore for the larger radiator an increased grille area was necessary (the same happened with the S-type replaced by the C-type having an additional mesh upper-grille). The bumper form was also enlarged and simplified. -- Last edit: 2015-07-20 11:12:00 |
