Two guys wrestle in the car, which is going slowly backwards until it reaches the end of the roof... and ends few floors below, near a minivan.

1996-1998.

Note the Ford emblem is blacked out. Why is it that most movies don't black out emblems like that, but certain films do? I always figured automakers let their brands being visible slide, since it would be unrealistic to expect filmmakers to pay licensing fees on every vehicle they use in a film.

Actually, they black out if automakers refuse to pay product placement fees. Cars of some brand (Nissan or sth) had those blacked out on Desperate Housewives until some episode, when the manufacturer agreed to pay to make them more visible.

Also, since the vehicle is destroyed, I believe filmmakers might have wanted to avoid any claims on Ford's side.

Perhaps it's because the car rolls away and crashes. The producers wouldn't want Ford to sue them for implying that the brakes are defective.

Actually it's a 1996-1997. For 1998-1999 Ford modified the front end and moved the Ford emblem down into the grill in effort to reduce the unliked ovular-shaped look.

Brakes are not defective: one of the characters clearly removes the parking brake, then the car starts to go backwards.
The reason is probably that Ford paid much for having the Five Hundred driven by main character, so having another Ford crashed was maybe not good?

It's all rubbish, look at every other car, Ford, Chevrolet, whatever, they've all got their Badges clearly displayed - I think somewhere there's a good explanation why this Taurus had it's badges "blacked" out, but, it doesn't make sense. I've had some people say that this car might have had them stolen, a good theory, but, silly. Besides, like commercials that don't want the viewer to know what car is in a commercial, they're not fooling anyone, especially not people that know their cars.

I think we can leave as a 3 star vehicle. The car is briefly used by a main character and there is a fight in/on the car. Albeit a weak 3 star.
