I couldn't find pictures of a 55 "88" versus a "Super 88." Seems to be quite a gap from the rear of the door opening to where the two-tone chrome trim dips from the body. Comments? |

I believe this is a 1956, base-series "88 Holiday Sedan," a four-door hardtop. It's my turn to eat crow. I've found of the Holiday Sedans in all three series for '55 that the body trim that denotes the optional paint separations begins below the A-pillar/vent windows, not behind the front doors as seen here. The curve of the trim from this angle is deceptive, but the lower part of the '55 trim turned toward the rear of the car. The trim here goes relatively straight to the beltline moulding. Were this a "Super 88" there would be a wider piece of trim below the rear side windows. @58Roadmaster:This is a 1956 88 Holiday Sedan all right: I've got the 1954,1955 and 1956 Oldsmobile brochures and I checked. You're right about the slight trim difference with the Super 88. As for the 1955 Holiday Sedans, as you correctly remark, the two-toning in the 3 series followed the 98's pattern(styarting behind the vent window). Those models appeared later in the model year and are not illustrated in the brochures. |

I would say "88 Holiday Sedan" is the complete title, for this is a 4d hardtop. Oldsmobile Coupés on IMCDb don't all have to be renamed right now, because I am no expert on a great many things including Oldsmobile, other than what I can find on the Net! .gif ";)") -- Last edit: 2008-04-24 07:08:01 |
