A common practice by automakers is to take a trim level name and years later make into an official model that may or may not have any connection to the original vehicle. The Ranger trim level on the F-150 later became it's own vehicle for '83. Later the Tahoe trim level on Chevy S10 Blazers became the Tahoe model in the mid '90s. Can anybody think of others?

Scénic for the Renault Mégane
Malibu for the Chevrolet Chevelle
Impala for the Chevrolet Bel Air
(though that all of these may still have a link with the original ones)

Chevrolet Monza,(Orig.,it was a sporty Corvair, then a different car in the '70's...then also it's an Opel, too!)Chevy Nova was called the "Chevy II Nova" up to 1968,then just "Nova",Ford Explorer,(Used to be trim level on Ford Trucks, then it became the SUV) Olds Cutlass began as top line F-85, Buick Skylark was first a top line convertible(1952?-54)then a top line Buick Special in the '60's,Pontiac Le Mans was top line Tempest as well(Cutlass/Skylark/Le Mans in 1961-69 time frame(up to '72 on Olds))"Riviera" was what Buick called Hardtops, then became name of a separate model 1963-96.Going waaaaay back, the "Custom Cruiser" was the "original" Olds 98 in the 1940's(Official name at time: Oldsmobile Series '98' "Custom Cruiser")then a big Station Wagon 1971-92.(Which could be either a 98,or an 88,or a stand alone model, depending on year??)Chrysler used & reused "Town & Country" no telling how many times,as well as Newport & Le Baron,Silverado used to be just the top trim level on Chevy Pickup, now they are ALL called a "Silverado" regardless....these are just what I can think of fast...sure there's more??
