Congratulations, you just found a 59 De Soto, with the second opening on the lower bumper, and the more beautifully integrated turn indicators placed between the head lamps. Compare Chrysler: http://www.locomobilia.com/images/lit_brochure_chrysler_1959_windsor_xl.jpg and De Soto (indicators cleverly hidden within the headlamp bezels): Link to "picasaweb.google.com" The model here will forever remain a mystery. -- Last edit: 2007-12-15 05:26:40 |

Ahh, you see, I thought that was a "Big M" in the middle of the bumper. |

It would have been nice to get a better capture when the car was closer, but the network squeezes the closing credits to ~1/4 of the screen width to fit in another commercial...![]() -- Last edit: 2007-12-15 23:22:33 |

If the car does move closer, we will have to wait until this show is available for DVD purchase. Yes I hate how they do that now, and also when they use moving graphics on top of the currently playing film to promote an upcoming program. -- Last edit: 2007-12-16 21:17:40 |

Leave it to Beaver is available on demand/netflix, etc nowadays, and in pretty good quality. That '59 DeSoto does indeed move closer, drives by, and off the screen. I'm pretty sure it's the Firesweep Sportsman model. The Firedome, Fireflite, and Adventurer all had the name on the front fender, ahead of the door and below the spear. However, the Firesweep had a shorter fender, and didn't have the name there. The car moves into the shadows as it gets closer, so it's obscured a bit, but I can't see any sort of script on the front fender. So, that should make it the Firesweep. |

No ID problem. I have the season 3 DVD set and played this in slow motion. The car is a Fireflite Sportsman 2-door hardtop. The nameplate behind the front wheel IS visible and the circular emblem on the rear fender, common to all Fireflites, is present. |
