JG 9668 up for auction today, chassis GY4227 "The Vauxhall GY 25 was produced 1937-40. Approximately 6,800 were built with the 1939/40 models being used as ambulances and staff cars in the RAF during WWII. From new, the GY 25 Saloon was £210 which increased to £345 in 1939. The GY Saloon is now particularly rare, with only 21 models known to exist in the UK and 48 worldwide (and only 31 of the GL limousine version). It is powered by a 25hp 3215cc straight-six engine derived from a Chevrolet unit (shared with Vauxhall after it was acquired by GM in 1929). This car was first registered in August 1937 to the then Archbishop of Canterbury Cosmo Gordon Lang. The car has also been used in a number of films, including Lassiter, Magnum, Empire Of The Sun and London Belongs To Me. The car is in original condition and has only had one owner over the last 30 years." |
