Note: I blurred the lower part as this was not appropriate. It's a stock footage taken at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Caterpillar, maybe? |

I don't think Caterpillar exported to Germany until after the war. Could it be some German machine? -- Last edit: 2020-08-08 17:40:23 |

It's actually a pretty well known footage. The footage shows a british soldier operating the dozer, so it's likely they were using something not german, but something from their own equipment. |

Don't we have that picture somewhere else on IMCDb and it's listed as a Caterpillar? |

the driver of the vehicle is Sapper Frank Chapman, who died in february 2004. He joined the Royal Engineers in 1942,he was the second man detailed to do the job as the first could not stomach it. " the sight was awful and the stench terrible. The first thing was i was covered in DDT powder. I didnt think it was right but there was a great riskof an epidemic, you just had to get on with it. There were bodies lying all about so i started to push them in which made the job go faster. It did not take long. We had to wash down with petrol to get rid of the lice and our clothes were burned each night. I used to wear a mask to reduce the risk of inhaling germs ,and to lessen the smell......the dreadful smell of disease and death." |
