As mentioned before, no idea when this took place or whose funeral actually was this (Varzi died in 1948/1953+ Appia on the left), but interestingly, Lancia has Novara (Italy) number plates, and apparently Varzi was born in Galliate (Province of Novara). Maybe they're actually commemorating his death in this photo ?? |

I think it’s not a funeral, it’s a memorial. Obviously, this picture was taken in july 1950 at Galliate in north of Italy during a celebration (about Formula 1 or Fangio ?) -> see here museum A. Varzy here : https://achillevarzi.com/gallery/ That's not an Lancia Appia but an Aurelia produced beetween 1950 & 1958. About the car we 're looking for on the left, here's the picture from the museum a bit enlarge : Bye the way, I suppose the car on the right is a Fiat 500 panoramic 1947 designy by Zegatto same small car, 2 places, same large windsreen : https://www.coachbuild.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=4482 or if we suppose those 3 car are each one some Lancia, it could be Lancia Ardea panoramica 1950 : http://www.carstyling.ru/en/car/1949_lancia_ardea_panoramica/ Does anyone have aspirin? -- Last edit: 2020-06-14 20:22:42 |

It isn't. Look at the bonnet line and where the bonnet is supposed to open, it's an easiest way to tell a difference between those two in this picture: -Aurelia -Appia Though I can't explain why did they give a date of 1950 on that photo. Probably made a mistake? I've looked at this before, but the windscreen is different, it looks like it's wrapped-around as well. Plus the bonnet looks different and it seems to lack 2 additional side windows. -- Last edit: 2020-06-14 22:39:07 |

[quote=s13a] Though I can't explain why did they give a date of 1950 on that photo. Probably made a mistake? you may be right but I’m not convinced : they was a Lancia aurelia B10 1st version, produced in 1950 which would explain the date however the bumper on the picture actually looks more like an Appia https://www.favcars.com/lancia-aurelia-b10-1950-53-photos-134400.htm and https://classiccarcatalogue.com/brand/LANCIA.html -- Last edit: 2020-06-15 20:48:41 |
