It MIGHT be. Commander Regals also carried this same trim but the Presidents had gold-tone hood ornament fronts. I don't see that on this car but admittedly the photos is a bit blurry. Believe I will change to Commander Regal pending any additional photos. (As an aside, President States carried front fender ornaments as standard but they were available optionally on Commanders and Champions, as well.) |

Quite a lot of 1955 Presidents's for sale on the internet don't seem to have gold-tone hood ornaments (not originally restored, or perhaps this was optional as well?) Some examples: Link to "www.artebellum.com" https://car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=413646&country=us https://www.grautogallery.com/vehicles/2506/1955-studebaker-president https://free-classifieds-usa.com/vehicles/cars/1955-studebaker-president_i67692 https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1073359 Aside from the fender ornament which is present on the subject vehicle (and standard on President's), the name badge (3rd thumb) appears to be, at least for me, in gold (typical to President), not in chrome/white (Commander), though of course anyone can put a golden badge and trim on the fenders, but.. |

Good, valid points and some nice links. I saw the nameplate too and was torn between the two conflicting ID points. Gold tipped hood ornaments were indeed standard on Presidents, however. If you see one without it, then it's a hood ornament from a lower series. Check out the on-line 1955 brochure. |
