This bug reminds me somehow of the 1938 Phantom Corsair: http://www.flickr.com/photos/uberschnap/184635219/ |

This is probably the closest you get to a 1938 Phantom Corsair, since it`s impossible to obtain. Only one remains to this day, in a museum in Reno. However, i think Horace kinda resembles the prototype of the Volkswagen Beetle from the thirties. The Phantom Corsair is beautiful! ... And so is this bug! -- Last edit: 2007-11-21 16:13:48 |

Two of these evil marshmallows were made for the flick. Mine is a 1965: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc226/theuiga/P1130003.jpg http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc226/theuiga/PC120019.jpg Most people I meet at VW events haven't seen the film so they think it's an NSU prototype beetle, which also didn't have a rear window. |

theuiga, love your Horace ... looks like you've got a Herbie on your driveway too ... any chance of a shot of that? |

"Engine? original 4-cylinder?. I need to ask, because in the movie, Horace used a gas-turbine engine. " The car has a 40hp stock VW granny motor that I've only gotten about 62mph out of, down hill. It runs really hot, too, because there's fabric over all of the stock engine vents. One of the future projects is to install a monster 12V fan to help with the cooling and add a bit of the turbine sound to it. |

How about a Wankel rotary engine? -- Last edit: 2008-05-24 11:56:30 |

from the movie sound effects, the engine appears to be a porsche flat 6 |

I love incredibly your Horace, theuiga! Absolutely majestic! I've noticed in particoular that the steering wheel has been modified as a kind of cloche, I believe ... Do you can give me a photo of it and about Horace's inside, please? My e-mai is: gioelelothar@libero.it Thank you very much! |

Not to mention a hood that says: "Ribbed for your pleasure!" |

Not "bug-standard"? |

It's been a blast, but I'm looking to build another car of my own so in 7 days the original Horace #2, pleasure ribs, tire slasher, laser and all is going up for auction by Screenused: Link to "www.icollector.com" Any other Herbie or movie car fans should take a look at a few of the other auction, there's a lot of original pieces on offer from the last Herbie flick, or Blade Runner, or plenty of other car-centric films with starting bids less than the cost of a dinner for two at the Olive Garden. --Brian |

Horace the Hate Bug was built in 1965. So he needs the year added. He also kinda reminds me of Darth Vader. |

I was always kinda sorry for this car because it's beautiful (and chracteristically Beatle-ish cute), that it was made to be evil and hate-bug. I think Horace deserves loving owner and he will turn into the love bug again.... |

The Hate Bug. That sounds like a car that Donald Trump would drive. -- Last edit: 2017-11-25 17:34:46 |

He prefers German made cars, as I read recently. |

So does Kim Jong-un... |

He depletes daddy's old cars. This Link to "www.welt.de" was one of the two stretched Benzes, which nearly had killed me. I stood on the far left Link to "www.pyongyang-travel.com" in the middle of the lanes (the through-lanes were closed) and took photos, when the convoi speeded through the roundabout. |

I just posted that comment because Donald Trump really is a hateful person. |
