Ok, guys, this time you won! ![]() It's not the 'San Remo' by Coach Design Group of Westlake Village, California - which would be the usual name to drop here. It's also not a Milan, not a Tomaso either (= the 'abbreviated' ones in order to save weight). Coachbuilders like Grandeur, Global Coach and Armor etc. wouldn't have let it go without at least one set of faux spare tires. American Custom Coachworks or Hess & Eisenhardt are further suspects, but it seems like neither of them did it. ASC (American Specialty Cars/ American Sunroof Corporation) of Southgate, Michigan and A.H.A Manufacturing Co. of Toronto, Ontario, were both very active in the convertible conversion business back then and both offered Seville-based 2-door coupes with a wheelbase matching the picture above: ASC named it the 'Charisma', A.H.A called theirs 'Canso'. My educated guesswork starts here: ASC and A.H.A both had all the tooling and knowledge ready to build a Seville convertible coupe like this. The shape of the area behind the door noticeably rising along the rear fender is a typical feature seen on various A.H.A convertibles and - unless it was the coachbuilder I haven't heard of yet - I strongly suspect A.H.A's Mel Stein and his crew from Toronto were the makers of this conversion - but I can't prove it. That's it from me for the moment, now for today's weather forecast: -- Last edit: 2020-05-14 23:44:18 |
