So far, I don't know that particular vehicle, but I'm pretty sure this elaborate Gothic eight column funeral car was created by a Spanish carpenter. Looking at the chassis and the cab not being incorporated into the carved body work at all, I strongly suspect that it once started out as a horse-drawn 'carroza fúnebre', before the the entire thing was updated by mounting it on an automobile chassis. Spanish hearses of that era are often based on US chassis such as Studebaker or Lincoln. As far as I know, the hearse above doesn't belong to the large Museu de Carrosses Fúnebres de Barcelona fleet, but it may well be part of a local collection from Madrid (I can't verify this for technical reasons). |
