Silver 1300E 2-door, initially launched March 73 as a a Special Campaign limited edition (5000??) using the strengthened GT/Sport bodyshell in Purple Velvet, Venetian Gold or Amber Gold, and built by Ford AVO in Essex. Oct 73 consolidated as a full production model made at Halewood, now using normal XL shell, a wider colour choice, and a few trim tweaks. Production ended Dec 74 after 6768 2-doors (plus 4022 4-doors, launched April 74 mainly for export to RHD markets - very very rare if one found in UK). Ford Europe wanted their version as well, so the almost identical Escort GXL was created for April 74 - sold in D, F and elsewhere, and mostly LHD 4 doors; unclear if these were made in D or UK (or both). |
