1974. The colour Cliffgrün was added for '74 but this top of tha line was named TS untill August 1976 when it shift to GLS. Still pre.1975 bumper and pre-1976 chromed mirror (The latter was explained by Ingo). |

Cliffgrün? Not Viperngrün? Of was the latter only available after the facelift? |

Oh yes, Viperngrün metallic. I didn't recognize it. You are right : Cliffgrün came the next year with the new bumpers' black plastic edges. But TS is right. I am sure. |

Viperngrün was avaiòable for '73 ? I don't think so... I can't recall in in any 1973 VW group vehicle and Passats were launched in the spring of 1973 but most were available since the following autumn. |

It looks like Viperngrün. According to https://www.passat-kartei.de/homepage/index2.html, it was available from August 74 to July 78 |

So a 1975 model year colour. |

Maybe another shade of green as the bumpers are those one deleted in August 1974. |

Then Cliffgrün is - to me - the only alternative. |

But it came at the same time... Maybe Ingo knows... |

The linked database says this: Cliffgrün from 05/73 to 07/76 |

Ah..., Danke, so Cliffgrün ! Was ich anfangs glaubte...! |

Sorry, I'm a bit sentimental about Viperngrün... |

No, it isn't - cliffgrün was not a metallic tone. |

No 1974 MY - it has no vents in the C-pillar. It's a later MY, which has lost the plastic edges of the bumper (which happened quite often - and was a problem at the TÜV inspection. -- Last edit: 2020-03-29 00:41:22 |

Did you or your family have a car in Viperngrün metallic ? In Italy it was very rare, I can recall a Viperngrün 1977 VW Polo GLS with French plate and tipically French yellow headlights parked in Turin for years in the early 80s in front of my Parents houe. I canno recall any other car in this colour connected with my past. |

It's a nice colour, but unfortunately as cliffgrün never available for the K 70. Ca.20 years ago I had the chance to buy a very specific car in viperngrün: the oldest existing Golf. But as usual: no money, no space, no time and not the total interest. The car was sold to a freak from the Golf I Club - which is also o.k. -- Last edit: 2020-03-29 14:17:42 |

Yes, my grandparents had a '78 Passat 1.6 GLS (2-dr with the small bootlid) in it with brown vinyl seats. I could had have it - with about 18 months left to get my license - if I only had the money, ability and the space to repair it. I remember the clutch was gone and it had substancial rust all around. Would have been a looker in the beginning silver age of automobilism (little more than 20 years back). -- Last edit: 2020-03-29 20:08:59 |

Beautiful car. I adore that facelifted Passat I in GL trim with quad headlight. I falled in love with a rare GLI in a sort of copper metallic (Bronze called) with appeared at the very end of the movie "Christiane F...) |

Oddly enough, Viperbgrü was rare in Italy, but its 1979+ substitute (Inarisilber called but a light greeen metallic) was a great hit. |
