In India it will definitely be a Maruti, because of prohibitive tariffs on imported cars.

It is called a Maruti 800, I think, because of the engine size. I presume they made them from 1992 on after they finished in Japan.

The Maruti 800 was introduced in 1984 and is apparently still in production.

This is older model than '84 800. Originally It would be an 1979 first generation's Suzuki Alto, but what was the name in India I don't know.

Then it sounds as if the first version of the Maruti 800 was the first generation Alto.

By the way, something's up with car-blueprints.narod.ru.

Simply Maruti which we know the best (and which is on the Wiki picture) is not a counterpart of Alto Mk.I, but of newer model.
According to my sources Maruti existed since 1981 (that's why I've set this year here), so it is possible that at the beginning they made also the older model. Who knows - maybe its name was 800 too?!

Maruti 800.

The very first 800 launched in 80s...used almost all japenese parts. Virtually it was assembled here.

If this is type 1, shouldn't the others ones be type 2?

Launched on market December 1983, so 1984 better.

I'd say all SS40 & SS80 samples should be categorized as supermini. It's keicar.
