The badge looks like Rover so I would say it is a pre-war Rover-based special . |

Agreed. I rather like it. |

Judging by the details of the grille and the position of the wheels I guess it is based on a Rover 12/4 or 14/6 (1934-36). |

Just after the war a Rover 12 Tourer was produced in very small numbers - less than 200, I think. This is probably one of those, which has been fitted with a new body. It certainly seems to be professionally made. |

It is not one of the Open Tourer built after the war. Those were based on the P2 chassis and looked different: http://www.roverfreunde.de/rffzj600dt.html Neither is it an original Rover Speed 14 Sports Tourer, which was based on the P1 chassis. http://www.roverfreunde.de/rffzh630dt.html This one sits lower and certainly has a modified chassis. Components are in my view taken from a P1, as the P2 grille is less edgy. |

I would say a 'one-off' Special, possibly produced in the late 1950s or 1960s from scrapped (earlier) Rovers. The wing mirror looks rather odd and out of place possibly being a 1950-60 design. -- Last edit: 2007-10-21 15:25:32 |

I think it is a Riley based special - or even a factory car. Which Rover would allow for such a low bonnet? |

Not impossible, junkman ... I've spent enough time under the bonnet of a Rover 12. You'ld have to get rid of the air cleaner, but a special would have ram-pipes (probably on twin SUs) anyway. |

Alexander, Sunbar: both of you are right, this car is based on a Rover chassis from the thirties, and was built after the war. The name is Kitcher Special. It’s not even a one-off; more than a dozen were made over the years. Here is the story: http://www.roverklubben.se/kitchere.html |

Thank you fortengo, an interesting story. |
